Washingtonian Home for Inebriates is established.

1857

Originally the Home for the Fallen, it is located at 1009 Washington Street. Its purpose is for the “cure of men addicted to intemperance.” The oldest hospital for the treatment of alcohol and drug addiction in the U.S., it relocates to 41 Waltham Street by 1874, subsequently moves to Forest Hills, and closes in 1981.
